I think this is potentially good news. The acceptance problem with socialism were with the workers and their "stubbornness", as Ferdinand Lasalle remarked already in the 1860s at the early stage of the socialist movement. With the rednecks pushed out of the labour market, socialism returns to its bourgeois roots. It never was a worker movement. As the STEM academics are the first to lose their jobs to AI they will acquire a more sceptical view towards capitalism.
Now assume an economy where all factories are fully automated. Productivity is at its peak and so is the wealth of the nation. With most people unemployed, socialism is unavoidable. We just have to tax the profits (which has no influence on production plans) and redistribute it as UBI. Together with public health and rent control, this amounts to socialism.
