I just wonder if things could develop in such a way we see in the Star Trek franchise. There are very large deployments of AI space stations and even in ships. The USS Enterprise (Next Generation) was the first ship in the fleet with an AI deployed which is also able to control the complete ship. The Voyager later have had distributed (biological) AI processors among the complete ship so it may still operate when parts getting destroyed or infected.
