I think the biggest disingenious thing here is that self driving cars would be launched fully without heavy testing for things like "thinking the sunset is a traffic light" While you can get your hands on the beta self driving cars now, they explictly say that you need to be ready to jump in at a moments notice to help course correct when it gets confused at intersections and the like. Companies arent just going to release it and go "ehhhh fuck it, we can fix glaring issues once people find them" There will obviously still be bugs for extreme cases that never came up in testing, but nothing no where near as simple as the example given here.
