Superintelligence is the maximum possible threat, but have we considered the dangers of AI that's stupid QUICKLY?
AI may do more total planning than humans do, giving it more and more control, even if it does make a lot of mistakes. I think that's a small benefit to all these separate AI models competing with each other. Human planning may become a minority, but without any particular AI and its own deadly quirks becoming a majority. That's not safety, but it is WEIRD.
