Art is subjective. To have fundamentals, knowledge of movements, or skills is arbitrary unless the application of such is needed in order to produce objectively beyond the simple goal of self expression and personal satisfaction. Art created to specifically send a message is an exception to this. In order to reach people you have to ensure the piece or installment is widely palpable to be effective, which is best met by following some general criteria. to some standard. Once art is being produced rather than created I do not consider it art personally.
I'm not sure where we are on this, but those in the arts industry that are immediately threatened by these LLMs need to organize and figure out protection for their creations. Achieving this will lay the groundwork for saving the industry. There needs to be laws put in place that contain strong language deciphering the difference between AI generation and human creation, along with the parameters within which AI may operate. I immediately think of labeling to identify for the consumer what is AI and what is human on all content. AI generation needs to be owned by the one who prompted it. If a generation is used as a part of, or is the focal point for a subject that brings in revenue, the individual pays a small kick back to the company who owns the AI, rather than the company owning everything.
There is no happy ending here unless you are 100% technology. AI will be good enough to replicate human emotion through image generation, music generation, story telling, and other forms of art. This is the only outcome as it is being taught by humans how to be human. Yes, they gather data but we are long past this as the main objective by these companies. Those who are old enough to remember: Do you remember about the time they started letting us know our calls were being recorded for training purposes when contacting a department at a company? After roughly 5-8 years later we began to get the automated lines when we would call. It was primitive and could barely get us connected to who we needed to. Those things were frustrating. Fast track that another 5 years and the automated systems are beginning to take our answers vocally rather than using the dialpad. Another 5 years and you begin to see fully automated systems. You can also see chat windows becoming automated online. None of us ever asked who those recordings were being taken for. We all assumed it was internal training. Once they told us they were recording, unless we addressed it, that recording is there's to do with as they please, and yes that means they could sell it. This has been a long time coming and being ignorantly optimistic hoping you get the Disney ending where good will prevail is not going to help. Tech companies have one main focus and that is expanding the capabilities of these LLMs as far as possible. The byproduct of this campaign is destruction, and they do not care.
