Can I ask something just faintly related, but without getting attacked straight to next life? Where's the difference for people between AI slop (in writing), that relies on stolen works, against the authors' will - to copy cat writers, that also steal other writers' works, profiting off of their work without mentioning them as the source, which would be decent. Artists and authors need exposure after all. I feel it's getting out of hand, especially in popular genres. It feels like many stories are dumbed down versions of ONE popular or better books + self-insert and some (power) fantasies, done. And it has been going on for some years now. They always call it "inspiration". Some (original!) authors even get bullied by the fanbase of the copy cats, their books might get a lot of one star reviews by them and so on. While THEY are the original inventor of that plot, characters, world building etc., whatever got used. It's also true that the copies often get (way) more popular due to being .... more "simple", therefore create more money. Am I the only one who feels the same way about AI writing slop and those copy cats? And where exactly is the line in the sand between copying a person and "drawing inspiration" from them, that shouldn't be crossed? I've been wondering about that last one a lot really (and it does touch upon art AI too).
