People thinking AI art looks better, kinda like you said, is just the equivalent of the early days of Instagram where laymen supported only artists who drew the most realistic looking art. Except this is disingenuous and doesn’t involve real artists while hurting the planet. People who aren’t interested in art, generally think the goal of art is to look realistic, so the more “”realistic”” is better. No shade to those artists in the early IG days who did those realistic lip, realistic eye, an object on a page and a realistic rendering next to it because that took effort and skill. It’s a valid way to make art. But I find that artists, people who genuinely enjoy art, since to prefer things more stylized. Your style says a lot about you, the things you choose to emphasize, the things you tend to de-emphasize, the colours you gravitate to, the way you like your line work or lack of it, all that says so much about you. I used to think I had to make the most realistic work ever to be a good artist, realism has its place, but sometimes it’s way more fun to say “screw it, does this look realistic? No but it looks FREAKING COOL!”
