Nightshade and Glaze are much more effective than legal action for damaging image generating AI, because art style theft for specific artists is usually done with what are basically plug-ins that _anyone_ can make. Greg Rutkowski sued Stability AI and got his work and name removed from the next edition of Stable Diffusion, but then users quickly created a replacement plug-in for anyone who wanted it.
The massive companies are not the only, or even the main place style theft is actually happening today, and the software they've created will survive them after they collapse. (Stability AI is already at death's door.) The only way to actually keep your work outside of the churn is to make it unusable.
