IF "The comedian" is art, then AI generated images are art as well - if we're going off "effort" and "skill" arguments.
The contention is, of course, that the comedian attempts to be art through context alone (no skill or effort was ever involved nor claimed, really) - which I personally disagree with, but some artists and art-adjecent people accept. And then we reach the conclusion, that the only AI image that can claim the "art" label based on a similar contextual exploit as The Banana is the one you mentioned at the very beginning - the one that won the contest to prove a point.
