Current neural network tech is just an ability to predict the next unit in a pattern, whether it's a letter, number, etc. That's all it is. We're a million miles away from general machine intelligence. People that say "we don't know how it's done" are intentionally misleading the lack of sophistication of this technology. It's just he ability to predict the next unit is a string of units. That's all it is. The biggest threat of AI is lay people and pop culture and dis-informed academics making more of what is actually going on. It's just predicting the next "thing" in a defined set of "things". A key point in this is how engineers strive to anthropomorphize the technology they're working on. When they do this on something like a neural network, a misunderstanding arises where the public thinks that the anthropomorphizing is actually describing what the tech actually isn't doing ... The biggest threat humanity faces from AI is a decline in entry level jobs and a major economic bubble. Perhaps Ezra should have on someone that understands the tech but isn't trying to sell something or doesn't have a meaningful stake in a related company....
