It's not even useful to discuss it in terms of what large companies will do with AI anymore. Serious AI tech has already entered the opensource community via leaks, intentionally, accidentally, whatever. And the progress there, on humble hardware with humble funds, is for better or worse awe inspiring. The largest players are in fact already facing the reality that they may not even be able to meaningfully profit from AI. I believe they're publicly engaging on the matter only to keep as much capital as possible secure while they still can. Pure damage control. It's fast approaching the point where to stop the development of AI would require obscene licensing and monitoring of the internet and personal computing hardware in general. Which they can also write on their foreheads. It's buckle up and enjoy the ride if you can time.
