I would like to share my perspective on the “gorilla problem.” As humans, we would most likely have wiped out gorillas if we had ever perceived them as a real threat to our survival. If they had posed any significant danger to us, we would have dealt with them swiftly — and a vast majority of people would have supported such actions.
We should expect the same logic to apply to AI. After all, it learns from us and reflects the values we project onto it. However, what we often overlook is that we have been operating under an outdated socio-economic system — capitalism — for far too long. While we have naturally progressed in science and art, we have allowed ourselves to remain constrained by a system that no longer serves the needs of modern society.
Because of that, we now face the consequences: wars, poverty, inequality, famine, social unrest, and deep divisions of all kinds. Most importantly, this system has put our planet — our only natural habitat — and all living beings on it at risk.
If we were to abandon the prevailing socio-economic model today and adopt one that is genuinely humane, we could coexist not only with other species, but also with AI.
