I don't think money is the reason people aren't listening.
The real reason is that it's difficult to conceptualize what the problem even is to a normal person to begin with.
In fact I don't even blame them because they're kind of right, we have to ask if it's even a problem at all.
So AI is really smart, smarter than us. What's the fear exactly? Skynet level apocalypse? Uh huh...
I think the reality is that AI is simply non-threatening. So what if my toaster is smarter than all the human genius in the world....so? It's a toaster.
I can just unplug it. This isn't Skynet.
