The type of regulation most people are wanting on AI is slowing it down. This is just going to lead making the world a worse place for everyone. Other countries are working on it and they will not pass the same regulations. They will actively use it to hurt their "enemies ." On top of that, AI is now Open Source which means ANYONE can do what ever they want with it. It's impossible to regulate something that is open source.... and I mean utterly impossible. The only regulation for the big companies should be to make sure that they are NOT using it to further monopolies or further run away capitalism. Also to make sure that it's not going to turn around and hurt people and will ACTUALLY help everyone. Ergo, help get technology to a place where we no longer have to work unless we want to, in jobs that we actually enjoy. As part of this, Congress needs to start working on Universal Basic Income ASAP. We've already needed it for a decade or two. It's even MORE important now with AI and the race to automate everything. They also need to focus more on world wide relations then whats going on in the country because we have a world wide economy. Fix the world fix the country. (And I don't mean focus on it the way we have with violence. Focus on it by bringing us all together and educating everyone on how similar we actually are. )
