Technology disrupts every generation. The graphing calculator had math teachers thinking that students would become lazy with solving calculus problems. Typing classes were effectively used to de-emphasize handwriting and penmanship. Now, AI is disrupting multiple subjects at once.
AI is being used to cheat by both teachers and students. A teacher who needs AI to help create assignments is a failure. Relying on instant answers messes up the mental reward centers in developing minds. I’m an older Millennial so I finished college before Google even “perfected” their search algorithm in 2007 and I know what it was like to grow up when the only cheating tool was Cliff Notes for writing. Even then, cheating required some base level of knowledge and work. Now, students are too lazy to even see if their generated answers are even plausible. This is the start of an intellectual emergency.
