Guns in the house, pills in the medicine cabinet, chemicals bought on amazon, google searches. . . people who are desperate find a way. I have a feeling (like in all news stories now) that the chat excerpts are taken out of context for bias. Don't want to invade this young man's privacy but it would be interesting to read the complete interactions. The fact they said 40+ times the suicide hotline was provided, I find it hard to believe the AI "encouraged" him. However having experience using AI for work, it's possible to change - even manipulate the responses by rephrasing. But even with that, with a typo or such I've had chat sessions cease because it perceived something illegal or harmful.
It's an very unfortunate and sad situation. It's sad Adam felt so lost.
