I don't think the goal should be to regulate AI. I'm a game developer, and I make games from the ground up - mostly solo. I've done pixel art and music, among many other things, and I've spent hours trying to find the right instrument and the right sample, which has required me to install so many superfluous programs in order to get a sample working correctly, but my goal is NOSTALGiA - remembering things we had, and creating things that were idealistic in that way. As an example I wanted to do a song that captured my childhood. It led me to directly contacting singers from 90s pop bands, and asking them if they knew what keyboard they were using 30 years ago. It led me to finding out that much of the hardware and software was out of my price range. I scoured through spc files (Which are rom snapshots from super nintendo games) to find the right sample which I spent countless hours trying to find the original sample. Then I wanted to replicate the sound, and that led me down a rabbit hole of compression and lowquality effects possible on old machines. Yes, I created something new - a new song, using old instruments that I, for lack of a better term, "STOLE". I don't intend to make money on it - that's not the point - I wanted to hear something that made me feel like a kid again. But why shouldn't I be able to sell it? On the one hand, you side with Disney, for example, because you don't want intellectual property to be stolen, but you get upset that IT wants the rights to its content - pick a lane, you either support an open environment, or you don't. But the reason I'm not upset about AI is because real artists are still laying the backbone for the art industry. Everyone wants a signed baseball. Do you think the market for replicas made the signed ones any less valuable? no.
