The question assumes that we already know what consciousness is , then it assumes that AI can achieve this capacity by our own beliefs and thinking.
Descartes would come and destroy this assumption 200 years later , we are jumping to so many conclusions in a very rapid way.
They could not be come conscious unless we can define what's consciousness is.
