While most companies are looking at AI as a way to reduce the workforce to do the same amount of work, some are gearing towards doing more with the same workforce, and I think that'll allow them to position themselves on the market in the near future.
In the case of my current employer, it seems to be a bit of both, depending on each particular area, but in the last years I've seen a lot of menial tasks being reduced so people could be reallocated to better projects
Future is certainly bleak, but not all hope is lost
As for basic income, if I got granted a $1k for a certain amount of time, I would keep living exactly as I do right now, dedicating all the extra money to reduce my mortgage. Once I got rid of it I would reconsider things, probably trying to reduce my work hours a bit
