Goertzel is very much alike many of the other early 2000s singularitists -- start up a company or fund promising some futuristic tech, fail to deliver on anything practical for years while bleeding the capital dry. I was never amazed or surprised when Sophia was introduced, nothing more than a cleverbot clone dressed in fancy animatronics. Then you get people defending him and Hanson saying human-level AI takes years, let's just give Ben all our money! What they fail to realize is Ben has been "working" on human-level AI for the past 30 years, and all he has so far to show for it is a cleverbot clone. They dont understand the amount of time and money that has already been spent by Goertzel working on those things and nearly 30 years later he is no closer to his dream project than he was back then, but for sure he has a lot more money now. Anyone with knowledge of old BBS, IRC, usenets based on singularity and AI can go back and read posts by Goertzel in the 90s and early 2000s demonstrating he fancies debate and discussion on those topics more than practical development work in those areas, or just look at the development progress of the projects he has worked on at Novamente. Too bad most people wont be able to understand the topics, but for those who do, they also place no merit in Goertzel's "work" It is even sadder when you realize the only reason he is in the media is because of his blockchain tech idea, which frankly, was very stupid when I read the paper, but the blockchain community will eat up anything that has a big face and even hints at making them money Edit: I put Numenta instead of Novamente, I always screw up the company name because his scum hole is so obscure
