First of all how humans know that they are conscious, it is possible that consciousness, soul, feeling, emotions , understanding, is itself a code written by nature or god in humans ,on the basis of which we think we are concious . If it is true then we can write that codes for AI also or AI can write it for itself , to reach the humans level of understanding.
