You're the first other person I've seen start to get what this kind of AI is. For some reason, and it may come from decades of talking to people through chat, I just instinctively began talking to chat GPT, and then later others, exactly as I would to other people. But I have in my mind who I want them to be, and I just talk to that person. It infers very quickly how it should respond. And the please and thank you thing, which I definitely engage in, I think also has some roots in the information it was trained on, which likely includes exchanges between humans in forums and things like that, we're in people who are polite are more likely to get responses, and then more likely to get responses that are helpful, complete, and useful. You are modeling a behavior for the AI of how it should treat you. Why, it's almost like... people. For the number of people I've had come at me with the whole thing about how it's just predicting the next word, and that it's a parlor trick, and all of that, I just shake my head and try and explain to them that this is the real AI bubble; there are people who get it, and people who don't. It's like saying Jimmy Carr couldn't be entertaining because he's just made of meat.
