---update---> came back to tell a troll to F- off >---watched more - 3 points (1) You CAN draw with a pencil, WOW...changed my review to thumbs up because of that! Towards the end of your rant - well glad you actually CAN draw with a pencil (19:40) and it's as good. Most can't. Serious. So good for you -I was bored on the same tired points earlier... I'm tired of a few very accomplished Pros whining about AIart while using high end software (that has AI in it way before Generative AI) and still taking 10 times to do a single line as they bleat and rave. Again you CAN draw with physical media and still at high quality. (2) "AI is another transition" argument... I'm sure due to age you missed how viciously the big companies used digital art to retire (by no more work) the traditional artists. This was 00s era. People who learned to oil paint and with brushes do masterful illustrations were NOT going to re-learn how to use digital tools then. The package would have set them back $10K not adjusted for inflation and they'd have gotten a slow, buggy, crash prone setup that would have been crippling. Way back (1980s) Moebius made a few pictures of a comic with digital tools "AVE" - and he said it was "Like painting with a bar of soap". People of the early didital era compared it to painting with a stick of butter held with a bendy plastic stick 2 feet away in a room heating up. This meant they had to deal with drag of computer resources, hard to work with shapes and the computer starting out slow and going into crash mode... BUT - the companies loved it. Why? Out with the OLD who knew what they were worth and in with the NEW who didn't but were looking to make names for themselves. Some old school pros complained the main publishers had told them they ONLY had the choice of 2 or 3 "Professional" scanning services. Each charged more than the publisher would pay to ... "Professional scan" the documents. They hadn't heard of the companies before and their paintings were often lost or damaged. Also postage. In short "We aren't going to officially fire you, we just aren't going to call you in for work or make the conditions so bad you'll walk out..." The early digital stuff was cheap and amateurish compared. But lots of kids earned more MONEY doing it. And they got replaced by 3rd world hacks who now keep wages to starvation level. Try competing with someone who lives in a country where 1/10th the wage expected is...well it sucks but better than literal back breaking labor in toxic plants and the alternative of renting the kids to pervy western tourists. Some are good though most (comic books) are low $ hack works them scrubbing over 3D sketchup and IMO a lot ARE using AiGen backgrounds and just fixing fingers, etc. Hint - major TTRPG new books... (3) - the Ghibli thing - neat burst of creativity. What IF there was a push to make your own interpretations of Ghibli style? Would you DRAW it yourself? Would you take $ to commission it? Also IMO the trolls instead of screaming about AIArt would be insulting the artists just to spread venom online to someone. The trolls were merciless ot #2 - the physical artists replaced by digital. They also loved to target illustrators when they did a panel swipe or obviously traced, some even provoking RL stalking/cancelling as if they did the worst crimes imaginable... Now they ignore it since its big $ companies having 3rd world hacks indeed tracing blatantly. 4 - the conclusion I know I said 3 so what - I suggest pushing for UBI - Universal Basic Income. The big companies ARE going to flood the market with AI and keep out any 3rd party competition no matter which "Side" is in power. UBI will probably be implemented at some stage vs massive prison systems and cities burned down. Welfare is cheaper than jail. If you want to be a "Professional Illustrator" it SUCKS. If you want to be an ARTIST you can spend your life doing your own work for its own sake and are a purer one than anyone working today. Oh, and after you die the big $ people who ignored you, kept you out of galleries, made sure any "Indie" project you made was unknown to anyone you didn't know about will swoop in and buy it for a handful of $ from anyone remotely related to you then pump up the value, use economic voodoo to use it to fluxh taxes and hide it in an "Art Warehouse" in a duty free port. Be nice to break open their monopolies so they have to compete with people and to hire good illustrators, etc. but the trolls would NOT support you, they'd mock you and help the big companies win. Not "Fashionably Radical" to do that. -----Original--- Got a little bored. You are flattering yourself if you think anyone is going to scan/copy your 'style'. Ok low end cartoony quasi anime art but too cliche. Know what I use Ai for? Backgrounds. During lockdown just before AI I was trying to commission artwork for my TTRPG. Lots of people who can draw flat quasi anime elf chicks -but ask them to do dwarves, humans, towns, cities, ragged barren plains with 'castle ---' on the mountain they outprice, ghost, back out. Why? Many were afraid the big dogs would blacklist them for helping an 'indie'. Hmmm - talk about 'two in bush'... But look what the big dogs have done; Fired tons of RL artists to replace them with AI their cheap 3rd world hacks just correct the weird fingers and swords... Source; Recent TTRPG books by big companies - look at the covers closely. But also many just used google to find info and often just traced their own over other things. So "Fantasy Art" isn't just the tropes of Dragons, Warriors, etc. it's also NEW stuff they might not be able to google something to trace... But Aiart is bad? Finally - very few COULD do a background to save their lives. Not just the "Not able to google" for something to apply an art filter in photoshop but they can't do backgrounds. Hmm - on YouTube look up Joony Art, Aham art, etc. It's something even a beginner who can't do a stick figure can do with a $20 range Wal-Mart paint set. So - if 99% of "Artists" REFUSE or outprice, ghost, etc. when asked to do a background... When I pay good $ to upgrade my 3D systems and to "Pro" level my own software hoping to make it myself - then Gen Ai comes out and it's NOTHING like people like you could do if you wanted to in your lives, more like old long dead Renaissance to impressionist masters who are QUITE public domain now.... Well, who's "Jurb" is "Turkin'"? Wonder how you'd be with just a pencil, RL inks, paints, etc. Again, look up JoonyArt and see if you could produce anything like your digital art without your computer and software. Hint - you've had AI working for you for a decade in your machines, it's only the "Generative Ai" that's an issue and hint - (well one man's opinion) the issue is it's not a secret thing with gatekeeping and knowledge barriers to keep it in the hands of "Pro" artists but got released to everyone. I saw even before Midjourney videos of people using it as a photoshop plugin and they were excited for it thinking it'd be a "Pro" only thing. The video had them imitating Studio Ghibli for a neat generated in patches background...
