Anyone that has driven long distances in any vehicle knows that breakdowns happen. Exhaust falls off, tire blowouts, coolant leaks, all kinds of stuff that truckers look for at each stop along the trip. To not do these mandatory stops and inspections puts lives at danger. How do they plan fuel stops? How do they plan to stop at weigh stations? What happens if whoever loaded the truck didn't properly attach the trailer? Or properly tie down a load? What happens if GPS fails? I've had it fail on me many, many times. So putting someone in the cab to 'babysit' the truck shouldn't be an option. Either you pay trucker wages or you get nothing. Legislation needs to nip this automation now. It is one thing to let an autonomous car drive around in town at slow speeds. But a truck at highway speeds weighing 80,000 pounds is unacceptable.
This video was kinda useless on the topic. Very little was even talked about. Sure you showed the company propaganda and interviews for a couple minutes with truckers and union but that was it. The whole video could have been 5 minutes.
