When Elon claims that there's a 25 percent chance that this is going to wipe us out you have to ask where this number is comming from or how you could even know this number.
I'm pretty sure that there's no such number and i'm not sure if this makes it scarier or less scary. It's just unknown if this could even wipe us out.
One could imagine that it can't wipe us out, since we're the product of millions of years of evolution and came out on top. Those neural networks on the other hand are very new and inefficient. Just look at how much power is required to run these things. That's not exactly something that is beneficial for survival.
