Artists already use so much automation and computerized tools that automatically do like 90% of the legwork for art. You have incredibly powerful image editing tools and color correction and mixing, but suddenly someone being able to type into a console and make a funny image is too far? The hatred for AI comes off to me as nothing more than a boomerism. Gen Z is having their first moment of being scared of and not understanding a technology, just like millenials with phones.
Oldheads like me will remember when digital art first started to become a thing in the early 2000's, and the fact of the matter was digital artists were seen as a joke compared to traditional artists. It's "fake art" because "the computer does it all for you". Nowadays the majority of artists are digital and draw with heavily computed line stabilization and preset brushes that they downloaded from somewhere. And that's perfectly ok.
AI is a tool, and people will use tools for good, and bad. You can use AI to come up with interesting compositions to work off of, and poor content creators that wouldn't be able to pay an artist anyways can make content for themselves. It's a win-win. No job will ever be replaced by an AI artist because it simply just can't do exactly what a human artist can do. AI language translation has existed for over a decade, and yet language teachers and language learning services are more popular than ever. Wouldn't a AI translator make them "obsolete"? Well, no, it turns out. Because they're entirely different things.
Just because some bad people are using it to steal art doesn't mean it's a bad thing. Otherwise we could argue computers in general are bad because people can copy/paste art to steal it, and have been doing that for two decades. There are infinity Chinese websites out there that copy paste art from deviantart and make t-shirts and mugs and posters out of them without any consent from the original authors, and you know what? It hardly matters. It doesn't impact the artist in the least bit, and if anything, it should push them to want to create their own merch line instead. If it's so successful on a bootleg website, then an official line would be even more successful.
I'm so sick of seeing someone just having some fun and generating some AI art and enjoying the new technology only to be harassed and bullied out of discords because they're "hurting" artists or "stealing" artwork when that's not even how AI art generation works in the first place. I see AI art as the 2d equivalent of downloading some 3d models and opening them up into SFM or blender to pose around to make simple funny scenes. Both are equally easy and both borrow assets, but nobody seems to really have a problem with 3d 'posing' artists (to separate from 3d modelers, which are obviously HIGHLY skilled).
