Roger Penrose, a brilliant mind, but he has for a long time tried unsuccessfully to locate Consciousness within human physiology. He confuses mind, awareness, understanding, thinking, feeling, deciding, coding, conceptualizing with Consciousness. Chapter 12 of "Yoga Beyond the Thinking Mind" provides a clear answer to the discussion. And IF what is written there is correct – a modern restatement of a known and accepted viewpoint of ancient india – then AI is absolutely capable of sentience. Sentience is no guarantee of intelligence.
