The animated movie "Summer Wars" shows us an example of an AI malware programme codenamed "LoveMachine" only a little more advanced than those being tested today, which messes with always-online, non-airgapped infrastructural control systems in ways that lead to chillingly realistic destruction, chaos, and death, even directly attempting to kill the protagonists trying to stop it. Realistically, we are close to such a scenario, in which an AI designed for electronic warfare could be released into our increasingly omnipresent Internet, but without any genius heroes to come along and defeat it.
