Working as a software engineer with almost 10 years experience in the field, I can tell that AI really doesn't have much by way of any good application for the average user and like Cryptocurrencies, its a solution in search of a problem. Where we use AI and where I believe it is incredibly useful, is in automation of really mundane, repetitive and bulk tasks. Such as Data evaluation/transformation/consolidation/cleanup or things like Test Automation. Thats where the real meat & potatos of AI's usefulness lies.
Personally, the only way I actually find AI to be useful to a consumer is as hugely improved search engine that you can kind of have a conversation with instead of just being pointed at websites. I share your view that generative AI being sold to the average consumer is about as cringe and far of a reach as can be. The Ads for AI Integrations are just about as dumb as they can get...
