I’m a bit ambivalent about AI in general. I work in an industry which is starting to incorporate it and I’m also an artist, so naturally, I’ve poked around at it. I think AI is really great to help artists and aspiring artists with vision. It can give inspiration and, while it’s not perfect, references to work from. When it comes to claiming work as your own, however, I think, generally speaking, most AI art will not give you that satisfaction, which comes from hours of labor, practice and mistakes. So if you are a budding artist and AI art inspires you, because it feels like you can finally see your vision come to life, great, but also recognize it for what it is. At best, a crutch you don’t need. An elevator ride up a mountain. You can’t say you’ve scaled it. I won’t say that AI art is only bad, because there are niche areas where it does good, but largely people just need to understand that typing a prompt and hitting “enter” is not you “making art”
