Strange one-sided vibe from this video. As someone who lives on a car-blocked 'slow street' as the video calls it, and bicycles and transits around the city, human driven cars are still the big hazard on the city streets, and making cars more aware of their surroundings would improve safety for the rest of the street users. Sure, no cars would be best, but some people need them and you can't realistically remove all cars from the country. So trotting out every individual accident or even just 29:05 like "oh look a car stopped in the intersection. And it's driving off again. Nothing bad happened" feels so unauthentic. I see human drivers do that same thing at the traffic barriers near me. Yes sure self driving cars don't fix society, and are potentially dangerous. But the cars we have now are actually dangerous and people are in fatal crashes all the time! Our car infestation seems like a problem that we need to attack from multiple fronts. I don't see such a big problem with the private sector funding this approach.
