Coming to this late, but anyone experiencing anxiety about the future needs to remember 2 things:
1) I grew up in Middle TN in the 1970's and 80's, where cars have existed as a common item since the 1920's (they started showing up around the turn of the 20th Century as novelties for the rich, but became a thing around the 1920's). But my mother and sister still raised horses. They rode their horses all around the neighborhood at times. They used cars to take the horses to horse shows, meeting up with THOUSANDS of others who - while admittedly using cars to make their lives easier - STILL loved riding horses. My sister won a national equestrian competition in the 80's and the prize of an Arabian pony from Bob Evans' Farm. And now, in 2025, riding horses is STILL a thing, almost a century after cars started making travel quicker, easier, and more comfortable. Point being that a century after we see humanoid robots carrying groceries for granny, we're still going to have people who prefer to do things in an analog sort of way a LOT of time.
2) These poor futurists need to read a history book, because history isn't a litany of superior cultures defeating inferior ones. Its often a superior culture being truly and utterly wiped out by ignorant, barbaric neighbors who covet all the shiny things their neighbors have, and don't have the education to understand what they lose by destroying entire cultures. So IF these A.I. are truly intelligent, they're going to have a vested interest in cultivating enough education to prevent angry mobs from "pulling the plug" - which CAN be done with an EMP or a sufficiently large coronal mass ejection from the sun. A.I. will NEED humans to rebuild in the event of "natual" catastrophies, and it will NEED human beings who know how to ride horses - if necessary - until the factories and cars can get back online after a disaster.
I've teetered on poverty for much of my life, and gone long stretches without meaningful employment, and yet I've found things to do. I've read, studied, gone for LONG walks at the park, etc., to the extent that even though I'm a college dropout, I know enough about technology to understand that Elon is a SALESMAN first and foremost. This stuff is going to be like ED-209 from Robocop half the time (in addition to being really sophisticated and cool the rest of the time). People will have to help stupid robots that fall over or get stuck, they'll have to deal with drones crashing in their yards, we'll have to get together and make new laws about where drones can and can't fly - whether or not the cameras that help them steer or monitor, etc., can be used in court if they happen to fly past a window and see someone nude or committing a crime or whatever. It's not going to flip to Wall-E over night any more than the phone destroyed human contact (which was a fear at the time the phone was invented). Yes, things will change - cars sped everything up. The phone sped everything up. The internet is speeding everything up, and you could make a fair arguement that people's ability to deal with one another has suffered as a result, but not in a historically significant way - people have ALWAYS had trouble dealing with one another. But we still hunt and gather and ride horses where I come from, and if PEOPLE are intelligent, they'll spend their newfound abundant free time learning how to do those things if for no other reason than to support the machines if and when something comes along to short them out. And judging from the history of catastrophic solar activity on this planet over millennia... its only a matter of time. So stay positive, SOME human beings still plan ahead. Cheers!
