competition drives down prices, that is why robotaxis will be cheaper, Don't assume that only one company will have them and will operate them as a monopoly, such as the old railroad companies for instance. The railroad companies owned the tracks and the trains, with robotaxis, they only own the cars, there will be multiple robotaxi companies that will be competing with each other and with human drivers. If they get expensive, then we will see the return of human drivers as that expense will provide an opportunity for a driver to earn a living. All the passengers want to do is arrive at their destination for as little cost as possible. Trains involve going to train stations and waiting for the train to arrive and it requires people to walk. On the other hand Tesla and other companies are developing robots that can walk so do you want to see humanoid robots carrying people around who can't walk? Should such robots be carrying people up stairs onto train platforms and then carry them into the train cars, is that what you'd rather have? The thing about human legs is they are hard to repair or replace once they get damaged, and not everybody is a healthy 20-year old who has all four limbs and can walk!
