My father was a truck driver in Australia for 18 years, I remember the quite livable income we had for years and he got paid less than half the wages of unionised drivers in US at the time (as I just learnt).
The driverless tech being piloted in the US will if successful be implemented here in Australia too eventually, and unfortunately. It will cause yet more unemployment and strain on already fragile logistics that no government is willing to address, a handwavey oh we're doing something strategy is exactly what both major parties here are looking for.
