The part that is science fiction is the idea that they can control these AI. These are not programs designed by skilled programmers. They are grown using techniques that are analogous to evolution. The engineers try their best to nudge them into a useful direction, but these things often optimize the wrong thing. Not too bad when hallucinate a fact but when these are 10x smarter and put in charge of the economy, these billionaires will be out just like everyone else. This is a separate issue from the effect of narrow AI such as self-driving cars. In fact, the investors want you to think about unemployment because it distracts you from the fact that they openly accept extinction. (Many of them give it like 10% but it's actually 100% if these things keep getting developed.)
