AI art pisses me off because, okay I’m about to be very overdramatic here, but it takes away the meaning of existence. Art is the one thing, the one thing we have left that we do not for the final result, but for the process. That’s the whole meaning of it! The point of it! We make art because we love doing it! We work hard to improve our skills because we enjoy that! We have stories to tell and things to express and we do this for our own sakes, to pour our own hearts and souls into our creation. We don’t need art to survive, we don’t eat art or drink art or breathe art, so arguably, it’s “pointless” compared to the other things in life that we do for the sake of survival. But we do art anyway. We consume art anyway. Because it makes life worth living. We study in school to go to college to get an internship to get a job to get a promotion to get money to buy food and a home and survive. It’s always all about the next step, the end goal of survival, not the process. If we keep living life for the next step, for the end goal, then you know that that leads to? What the only end goal of life is? Death. That’s the only thing life will end with. That’s why art is important, it’s a way of saying that life has meaning, has purpose, not for the sake of the end goal, but for the process of living and existing and enjoying the short time we have!! Everything dies, everything rots, everything will be forgotten and gone someday, so if those end goals are the only meaning of life, then life has no meaning. Art is humanity’s way of screaming to the void that that’s not true, that doing things that aren’t necessary for are survival still has meaning and purpose! So that’s why AI art bothers me so much. It takes away the process and reduces art to nothing but a quick end goal to be accomplished as efficiently as possible. If we say that the only value of art is in the end result, if the only value of life is in getting to the end point as fast as possible, then what’s the point of even being alive? Sorry for that incoherent ramble, it’s 3am so I am getting weirdly dramatic over this lol I hope something in there made sense, at least!
