Here is a perspective that I think you're missing, & I wouldn't ever have clued-in to it, without it being pointed-out to me, it's just non-obvious unless one has different experience..
You're saying that we used to consume more art, less mere-content..
Someone Black pointed-out that when the *records* industry & *radio* took ahold, it wiped-out the we-are-our-own-musicians culture, that *had* lived.
Now consider that this everything-is-crap-"content" is just the *beginning* of our next-century..
You're too young to have grown-up back in the bad-old-days of film-photography, but I *guarantee* you, digicams *exponentially multiplied* the quantity *and quality* of photography, outright.
It was when it changed from being days before people saw the results of their photos ( at-least, sometimes weeks ), to being a second or 2, that it suddenly showed one *within short-term-memory*, that suddenly skill began skyrocketing.
The same is true with "content" vs Art.
During the *broadcast-monopoly*, which seems to capture its essence, what we get is filtered by institutions/corporations for "quality", but for some kinds of quality ( like homogenizing-the-population's-thinking ) that we don't benefit from, strategically..
My intended-use of AI for the stories I want to make won't be the way the normals seem to want to use it: to *substitute-for* work,
rather, I want it to make *my* work viable.
My work is what it isn't going to replicate, right?
So, it's specifically my work that is unique, market-claiming, etc..
What makes something have emotional-spiritual valence/intensity?
that it resonates with someone else's experience, right?
Just arranging words, or tones, for music, isn't necessarily going to have the emotional-spiritual valence that authenticity will..
There are skeletons/rules, of course, of story, both John Truby's books ( I think he's on yt ) are *required* reading for anybody who wants to understand story, & so is Shawn Coyne's StoryGrid, anybody who isn't getting those structural understandings right, is obliterating *their own* opportunity..
but it fundamentally comes down to thee Broadcast Industry's Monopoly wiped-out pervasive-authentic-creativity, & now everybody's becoming able to be participating in production makes it come back to being pervasive,
*but now it's all seen through the lens of sociopathic-institutions who care only about managing the market for extraction-of-profit*, & THAT is the real problem.
A brainwashed creator-population, see?
Education's inauthentic, just ask John Taylor Gatto ( who used to have a yt account, but he's gone, now: wikipedia's got a page on him, though : )
if inauthenticity's enforced into children, into all lives, then .. why would the population's production of content somehow be anything other-than inauthentic?
It'd be natural that what our civilization enforces into its people, is what its people produce, right?
---
This stage will pass, though not necessarily in MSM..
Same as in gaming: the *real* creativity is *usually* in the indie works, right?
( Valve being an exception, Nier Automata & Death Stranding also being defining works, from the videos I've seen of them..
I'm not a gamer, but the *incredible* work that they put into re-defining things,
reframing gaming, pouring *other* kinds of depth into what they were doing, that matters.
Being a non-gamer, I'm obvious blind to many other instances of such profound reframing,
but Adam Millard, the Architect of Games, covers all that contribution. )
---
I think the real-problem is that people need to be made competent in the fundamentals, ( Truby & Coyne! ), need to experience the *most awesome* stories they can,
so that their frame-of-reference/experience is as deeply embedded in Excellence's domain as possible,
& need to be "getting their eyes outside", onto *non*-synthetic experiencing, until they've *got* perspective that AI isn't going to derivatively-produce.
Get that balance right, & should be reasonably easy to compete?
Certainly *not* getting it right won't help, will it?
Stack-odds! you don't win through capitulation, do you?
