Not gonna lie, as an artist myself (who also took art classes in college, where I similarly sketched a self-portrait for class), I found the Heisenberg "pieces" to be quite bland, flat and lacking anything that draws the eye's interest - like someone just slapped a couple different filters onto a promotional photo from the show. Which, funnily enough, would qualify more as actual art than the AI-generated stuff lawl. But if you'll allow me to put on my Pretentious Hat for just a moment, I gotta say The Dad portrait has life, has quirks - it has depth and texture due to the variation of light and heavy pencil/coal applied throughout the piece - contrasting things like his shirt with the back of the chair. The way his head is turned slightly, the way he's seated and how his arms are rested and where his hands are placed all give the piece a feeling of movement and humanity, creating a flow that draws the eyes pleasantly through the piece. Okay, I'll stop now but that was seriously no bullshit. I genuinely enjoyed looking at The Dad portrait - is it "conventionally" good? I guess not but I also don't know why that should dictate how much we find ourselves enjoying a piece. My initial reaction to The Dad was not to laugh, but to smile - to feel almost nostalgia for something rendered so earnestly and with technical talent and good composition. Anyway, hats off to you, sir.
