I don't know what to tell people other than... there's nothing that can be done. For as long as there has been 'art' there have been people making art of people against their wills. Now yes, you're going to tell me that deepfake porn isn't art, fair enough, but legally it will be protected as 'art' so... might as well get used to calling it that. You can't pass a law that says it is illegal to use someone's likeness in an offensive way because... what is offensive? The courts have already ruled on the 'artistic expression' of people making offensive art or else Trump would have sued a very new paper that published cartoons of him. So next you ask where the line is... well how close is too close? There are people out there making photo-realistic drawings of celebrities in... less kind situations. That's a drawing that looks real but it isn't real. This isn't about consent, you try to make that argument but legally it won't work and if you're going to try to use ethics and morals to govern the internet... well this must be your first day online. Deep fakes aren't going any place and without a massive law that has far reaching ramifications, you're not going to be able to control it. I've seen some of the things people have suggested as far as laws go and as much as I agree this kind of 'porn' needs to be stopped these laws could then be used by people in ways that are not intended to shut down all manner of expressive content. Now yes, cue the people saying 'you're a guy and you don't understand how this feels' and you're right, I don't but I also don't need to. Feelings don't get turned into laws and you can't enforce them. The real horror is something no one has considered or at least I haven't seen it yet but what happens when you take the likeness of someone who is underage and do this to them? That's what will come next as a massive firestorm and leads to all kinds of legal questions. I guess my point is deep fakes are not going anyplace anytime soon.
