I have a bit more of a nuanced take on this than a lot of other people Firstly, I completely agree with the decision to reject this art, its a normal art competition I dont think that AI art should ever be allowed and its immoral that he even tried submitting it in the first place However, there are ways that AI generates art that I dont think a human could ever replicate. Theres a way that AI art makes complete sense when you look at it and only when you start concentrating on it do you realise that it actually doesnt make any sense at all, and I see artistic value in that. Basically, I dont think that there should be no AI art, or that people who use AI should not be considered artists, but it should 100% be a separate thing. Like how in speedrunning, a TAS is a perfectly acceptable way to speedrun as long as it self reports as a TAS and stays in its own category. Another point is that I will only condone AI art generation programs that have the legal right to all the art that they use. A better example is Adobe, which has a massive library of stock photos that they use for their AI generation programs (not to say that there is nothing wrong with the way Adobe uses ai, but it is better than other companies that blatantly steal). In short, as long as the AI art stays in AI art competitions, and does not interfere with real art competitions, I dont have a problem with it, and im honestly interested in what sort of art people are able to make with it, but trying to pass off AI generated art as legitimate will always be wrong.
