As a traditional guitarist, songwriter and producer, I find many of the arguments made by the big players are quite disingenous. Upon discovery that Universal is working on an AI of their own (and probably going to train it on their entire catalog), I find anything their corporate shills say as being just hyprocritical blather. I have used Suno and while the fine tuned controls that I want are not yet there, I'm sure they are on the horizon. AI is in its infancy. However, while experimenting, I've been able to use more creative methods to manipulate Suno in ways that gives me a bit more control over the output than is available already. I ALSO WRITE ALL OF MY OWN LYRICS. I am able to input riffs and melody using live recordings of myself on guitar and using the 'extend' function on Suno to produce an AI generated rendition that captures the key, melody, cadence etc in my own, original, playing. While tricky, it works to a certain extent. From there I'm able to flesh it out using multiple methods, while still in Suno. It isnt easy and you spend a lot of credits since the AI can, often, randomly produce something that is unwanted or not the same as the one you had prior (which may be the one you envisioned). However, I've discovered methods that one can use to pretty much get the same results more often than not, allowing for minute manipulations and changes going further. After I get the output I am looking for, finished, I can then bring it into Ace Studio, split out the vocal stem, convert it (vocals) to midi and then replace the vocals with legitimately trained vocals (of professional singers whom DO get paid royalties for their voice training in the AI anytime their voice is used). In Ace Studio I have more control over vibrato, intensity, dynamics etc making the production even more controlled and professional. Then, the entire project is brought into my DAW (I use Ardour, FL Studio and Audacity)for any remixing, additional instruments and mastering. All this requires A LOT of human input AND creativity. I often, also, define the key and chord progressions, etc and knowing your prompting while also knowing music structure is beneficial. To have some corporation moron, who may have never held an instrument or knows the modes in music theory, try to tell me my music isn't creative because of the tools I used in it's production is complete corporate BS, but I expect nothing less. All while their company is producing AI tools. HA! The analogy of someone asking a friend to write them a pretty song and then produce and claim copyright to it made me laugh because thats exactly what major labels have done forever. "If you sign on with us, we own the copyright to anything you create while under contract." Yada yada yada. Yeah work for hire stuff. People so easily whore themselves out to those pimps so eagerly for fast fame and fortune. Yeah, well... my AI is just a work for hire damn it!!😂 To be fair, AI is a tool. If you put garbage in, you get garbage out. BUT as you and all of us musicians know, music and art is subjective. To each his own. EDIT: And thanks for all of your videos, I've been a creative artist for all of my life, from traditional drawing and painting, to digital graphics, 3D modeling and music. I've long time experience with copyright. My beef is with corporations whom have always made attempts to cover their bottom lines and their profits by making it difficult for independent artists. I have no ambitions for fame and fortune, but I'll be damned if any corporation is going to define my art and creativity by the tools I use when many of their own studios are using similar tools. They have a larger voice in these decisions because they have well paid attorneys to make their voices heard. It's the same as when credit card companies took their case to federal courts to change bankruptcy laws in their favor, making it difficult for people who suffering under the weight of enormous debt to get out from under it without losing everything including homes, autos etc. Those people became victims of the companies and the laws passed because of them simply because they did not have the financial resources to fight it.
