My issue (as a natural child of both the art and the tech world) stems from the fact society (artists included) holds some conceptions that are IMO wrong. - many people see art in a bourgeois definition (aka talent + time = value) that I don't think is absurd but also don't think can be seriously held as definitive. Art and innovations have precisely generated and arch of redifining "what is Art" with the underlying implication that this down the line led to "what are we human all about?". Funnily enough both sides try to hammer points standing on those shaky fundations - tech bros will say out loud that they take inspiration from copyrighted material... because that's what every artist on the planet did too. You may not like this part in court if you don't see it coming but yes, every artist took inspiration and BTW, I can be doing thing "in the style of Frazetta" (well if skills allow) and no one can claim the resulting copyright from me. Whether my method is learning how to paint or how to AI is unlikely to be seen as different in the eye of the law IMO. - that being said the IP holders will do the usual capitalist power play to preserve their investment and as usual artist (to whom it's globally detrimental IMO) will support this just like they did in music etc. People actively believe that capitalism works best in a world where Chinese communism outperforms it very visibly. Oops, did I lost you here? Cognitive dissonance is a bitch, I know! Anyway, law will probably try to support capital over activity (which is what capitalism actually means down the line, and only that). - for now there are no comic books or animation movies that are more than marginally AI made that have gathered the interest of the crowd and it's not clear it will ever happen. IMO it's indeed because it's all about intention and AI doesn't offer people tool to *finely* convey intentions. Competing with medium that let you use gestures or at least complex UI it's so god damn weak. Not sure it will ever change. (although for musicians I do worry, as music being inherently absract and more rigid in its structure makes it inherently more prone to see actual AI made bangers.) So for all the shit talk I suspect a lot of this will just look silly in retrospect. - and if I am wrong and we're about to see AI with non obvious artist copyright doing entertainment market ready publication, none of this will save us I am afraid :P
