Everyone knows about the Turing Test, but what will really boil your noodle is the Chinese Room Experiment. ChatGPT doesn’t really have true understanding of the concepts it discusses, but rather utilizes language as a symbol to give answers based on input. This is the difference between AI, whether it be a language model or any future AI that will be more sophisticated, and a human being. The words we use have meaning and intent- AI lacks the capacity to understand the nuance behind the words it uses. Very interesting to think about as it can give us better understanding and insight into human consciousness.
