In the early days of experiments into artificial intelligence, science made a tragic error and somehow managed to get the algorithm completely inverted, and by accident managed to invent artifical stupidity.
Not quite sure what to do with artifical stupidity, they decided to give it a silly hat, call it Dave and give it a flat earth channel, then just sat back to see how bad things could get.
