As a disabled person myself and a professional artist, I really appreciated Phoenix's thoughts here. I also wanted to add a couple of other points that I feel are important in this discussion. First off, art is often a really important outlet for those with disabilities, and even a good professional venture. If you have decreased mobility, many jobs and your overall quality of life are quite restricted, and building skills as an artist can offer comfort or even a career path. AI is now threatening to take that away, and it's especially disgusting to see pro-AI people suddenly start using the disabled as part of their arguments, when we never asked, and those people never cared about us before. Secondly, the money, resources, and research done to create AI tools could have been used in so many better ways to ACTUALLY help those with disabilities. Real aids and tools and treatments for the disabled are often grossly underfunded and slow to progress and implement. Imagine if the same resources being poured into data centers and AI training were poured into developing more advanced mobility aids or treatments and making them more efficient and affordable. Imagine if wheelchairs and prosthetics were powerful enough to give these people true independence. Imagine if cars were given enough driver aids and automation so that no visually impaired person ever had to be trapped by the limitations of a drivers' test. Imagine if research into treatments and therapies for debilitating diseases had as much funding and power behind it as that data center that's farting out shitty videos of pikachu stealing a car or whatever. If you REALLY want to take that argument, then tear down all of the AI shit and divert that money to things that would REALLY ACTUALLY help.
