We are heading towards a dark age of humanity. Deep faking technology is going to destroy any sense of truthfulness left on the internet. Someone you don't like? Create a deepfake of them being racist. Want to attack an opponent in a political race, quietly release a deepfake sex scandal of them to destroy their reputation. Want to trick people into parting with their money? Create a deepfake video of some terrible tragedy in a far off country and ask people to donate to these non existent victims. Want to just cause fucking hysteria!? Boom, here's a deepfake of the start of world war three! And it goes both ways! Done something horrible online that you want to get away from? Just claim it was deepfaked!
EDIT: Oh god and it gets even worse! Say you've been accused of some crime you didn't commit. Everything is going well in your case when all of a sudden here's some damning video evidence of you doing it. This could even be used to really effectively gaslight people into believing a false narrative. People keep showing you videos of you doing something until you begin to question your own innocence!
