As a fuel hauler in a sleeper truck (meaning I travel around the country, but mostly midwest and east), I don't EVER want to share the roads with these nightmare scenario trucks. My 2023 Freightliner, like most other modern trucks, has various sensors (part of the safety theater so loved by the trucking industry) which are often unreliable. The front collision sensor routinely reads shadows as obstacles and will kick on an autobraking system when it shouldn't. I don't trust these automated trucks at all and they don't belong anywhere on our roads. I am very thankful I never run in Texas, and I don't want to, knowing how little they care about road safety in their state.
Being a truck driver is SO MUCH MORE than steering the truck. It's years of observing and learning, predicting what the car and other vehicle drivers around us are going to do because we understand other humans in ways that machines never will. From the bottom of my heart, fuck all these megacarriers who hate the drivers who made them rich and want to take away their jobs and make our roads unsafe, all for a quick buck. And fuck all of these soulless, shortsighted idiot AI bastards too.
