The Internet is a Federal Government thing, they invented it, they should have put in place and been implementing regulations all along. If they had, maybe we would not have had porn on school computers in 2001. The AI we are concerned about here does not exist without the Internet, so it naturally falls on the Feds to also take that in hand, 40 years too late. AI regulation falling to the Feds helps us in our fight to control it. We can go to one source of regulation with a knowable agenda.
I'm normally in favor of a closer to home is better in terms of government, but this is too big and the threat of AI being used to help implement a 1984/Brave New World style surveillance state, probably implemented by megacorporations, is too close and real. It's a mistake to pile on with the TDS.
Whether we agree or disagree about "wokism" we should at least understand that it's a concern many people have and resist the urge to defend that without a better consensus. My first guess is that they are concerned that big, powerful, and liberal states would try to push AI to be more "woke" hence pushing that into consensus. I feel like that is half the reason the regular Trump voter worries about that, when normally they would be more "states rights" minded. We have to be mindful of the impact of the political "sides" and not just our intelligentsia "side". We are basically creating a third front in the very real culture wars.
