I think there absolutely is room for AI and automation in artistic jobs, especially ones that require a lot of tedious repetition. Things like programming walk cycles and smear frames are things artists do out of necessity on major projects, not for the love of the craft. That way the artist can focus on the parts of the project they're passionate about, as opposed to "doing something else". The difference between AI assistance on major projects and AI generation is that when you use AI to help along the final project, it's still the work of a human and still has their soul in it, it just was made a little easier.
During an orientation panel for art school, someone asked an alumni of my college "what should artists relationship be with AI". They responded with "We shouldn't have a relationship with AI. It's a tool, not a person. You wouldn't say you have a relationship with your paper, pens, or paints, would you?"
