Although the threat is very real from AI to humanity and peace, the main reason this gentleman left the company is to prevent AI being developed further by others therefore google could catch up Bing and other AI companies because i think google sees especially Bing with AI as existential matter which is absolutely true. i think google made this smart move because it realized it can not catch up others soon at all. This move would give enough time to google in order to catch up with rivals. And final thing is actually AI have potential to give humanity and earth an unique chance to reduce population all over the earth and that is priceless. this would protect everything about earth and societies. so we need to find a way to use AI without direct impact to peace in earth so that in return it would give humanity an amazing gift.
